For the past couple of years I have joined others in choosing one word to focus on throughout the year instead of a New Year’s resolution.

I pray and pick out something that I feel like I need to improve on, meditate on, explore, share, or discover and make it my goal to improve in that area.

In 2011, my word was faith

That was the year when my relationship with God spread its wings and began to fly, the year I discovered the rewards of being faithful to my Jesus, and finally began to understand that He is always faithful to me as well.

Faith brought me to Mozambique in 2011.

In 2012, my word was still. I learned that being still encapsulates many things, including…

This year was by far the most exhausting and challenging year of my life. However, I have learned more in these 365 days than any other year. I hope I can say the same about 2013.
It was difficult coming up with a word this year. After several days of prayer, meditation, and pouring through scripture, I finally realized that I was going to have to settle for 2 words.
The first one is…
Just like our human need for water, I have a need for Jesus. I want to constantly be seeking Him. Furthermore, I want to minister to others who are thirsty, possibly more than me, for satisfaction of the Spirit.
My second word is….

Sebomai (SEH-boe-mayee)

(there are no pretty pictures on Google for this word, because it’s pretty much Greek)

I like languages because there are so many words that are written in spoken that have no English translation.

In Greek there are about 4 or 5 different words for worship. Sebomai is one of them.

More specifically, this word refers to worship especially to God as a result of reverent fear and awe.

I want that.

Do you have a word for 2013? I would love to hear it!

  1. thirsty. i love that. reminds me of matt 5:6. :)

reverent fear and awe. i love that too… i forget too often that God is also to be feared, not only treated like a bestie, if you know what i mean.

    happy new year, hannah!

  2. Thank you for sharing your words with us, I think the word Sebomai is beautiful, I have never heard of it before.

My word for 2013 is pretty simple, yet so hard at the same time. The word I chose was Trust. Sometimes, it is just so hard to trust that God has a plan for my life and he is always going to look at for what’s best for me. I am excited for what God is going to show me this year!

  3. I love your words. How cool.

My word is Peace. 2012= Grace.

    Hugs to you, Hannah. :)
